Toyota GR Corolla unveiled as the most powerful Corolla to date
Toyota has unveiled the most powerful variant of the Toyota Corolla to date, the Toyota GR Corolla, a track-ready hot hatch inspired by race cars. The car will be available in two trim levels: Core and the limited Circuit Edition, and will go on sale in international countries later this year.
Built on the GA-C platform, the Toyota GR Corolla doesn't look anything like the Corolla we know of. The black GR badged functional matrix grille is flanked on both sides by functional air vents. The Circuit Grade's front grille is gloss black and has integrated LED fog lights. The hot hatch picks up on a new 3 way split exhaust pipe system which to be very honest, looks great.
The roof of the Circuit Edition is forged carbon sheet moulding compound. This lightweight, extremely stiff material helps reduce the car's centre of gravity by removing the ounces that a steel roof would add. The Toyota GR Corolla is 2.4 inches wider than a conventional Corolla, and it rides on gloss-black 15-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres that are further highlighted by the red brake callipers.
At the heart of the Toyota GR Corolla is a 1.6-litre 3-cylinder that we have also seen in the GR Yaris. Capable of producing 304PS and 370 Nm of peak torque, which is put down through a 6-speed manual gearbox and an all-wheel drive system. Drivers can choose between 60-40, 50-50, or 30-70 power distribution between the front and rear wheels.
The inside of the Toyota GR Corolla is all black, with red accents on the door handles, centre console, steering wheel, and side air vents. Red stitching, red mesh inserts, and GR badged headrests adorn the suede and synthetic leather-trimmed sport seats.
The newly designed GR Full TFT metre, which features a 12.3-inch colour Multi-Information Display (MID), provides racing drivers with feedback. It has a tachometer and a GR metre with 4WD mode, turbo pressure and gear position indication. The Toyota GR Corolla has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice assistance, automatic temperature control, heated front seats and steering wheel, six speakers, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa compatibility and power windows with one-touch auto up/down.
