Maruti Suzuki and Toyota in works of an all-new mid-size SUV to rival Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos
The mid-size segment in India has been dominating the Indian markets for quite a while now. It wouldn't be fair for a segment to be booming and the biggest player in the game to not have a contender. Saying so, Maruti Suzuki has been in works with Toyota on an all-new SUV to rival the likes of the mid-size SUV segment leaders Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos and we finally have a few spy shots to know what to expect.
Developed under the Maruti Suzuki and Toyota joint venture, this all-new SUV will be launched in India later this year.
The new car seems to have adopted the ongoing trend of having split headlights and DRLs. With a fairly good ground clearance, the SUV also seems to be riding on 17-inch alloy wheels.
No official name for the SUV has been spoken of yet, but we don't expect a diesel engine to be an option at the time of the car's launch. Rumours also suggest that the new car will be priced somewhere between the Rs 12 to Rs 16 lakh figure.
The new mid-size SUV would only be available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. It is expected to include a true hybrid setup, which means it will be able to function on battery power alone. As a result, it will be the most fuel-efficient SUV in its class. Despite the fact that the engine is not turbocharged, overall power is predicted to be high thanks to the electric motor boost.
On a closer glimpse at the cabin of the car, a fairly big infotainment system also seems to be onboard. We expect the vehicle to be launched somewhere around the Diwali season.
Toyota and Maruti have been collaborating for a long time. Two such examples are the Maruti Suzuki Baleno-based Toyota Glanza and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza-based Toyota Urban Cruiser. Toyota will launch its own versions of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the future.
