Toyota Yaris sedan discontinued in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that the Toyota Yaris sedan would be discontinued in India with immediate effect on September 27, 2021. This move is part of Toyota's product strategy to continue to meet the customer's ever-changing demands through improved technology and product offerings.

The Toyota Yaris was introduced in India in April 2018, however, it never really took off. The expensive price was undoubtedly the largest obstacle, but fresh competitors, such as the new-generation Honda City and the facelifted Hyundai Verna, has made things worse.

The Yaris was offered only with a 1.5-litre VTVT-i petrol engine option, with both manual and automatic gearboxes. The manual was a six-speed while the automatic was a CVT gearbox. The variable valve engine develops 107PS of power and 140Nm of torque.

Toyota will continue to provide seamless service to all Yaris customers through our dealer service centres around the country, with the assurance that Toyota original replacement parts will be available for at least the next 10 years on this discontinued model.

Toyota hasn't announced a replacement for this car, fueling speculation that the Yaris would be replaced in India by a badge-engineered Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. According to recent trademark applications, the new car will be known as the Belta.

Pricing of the Yaris replacement may see a minor hike over the Ciaz, by Rs 10 to 15k but the features list should remain largely identical to the Maruti Ciaz, although being a Toyota, it should come with a more extensive warranty package.
