Volkswagen India has teased an upcoming SUV under the wraps on its social media handles, the brand is yet to confirm the model and speculations hint at the Tayron SUV.

The short clip released by the company does not reveal much details apart from the illuminated headlamp cluster along with lit up DRLs on either end. The Volkswagen Tayron is already on sale for global markets and if it is to be launched in India, it will lock horns with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian and MG Gloster to name a few.

The styling elements of the Tayron mirrors the Taigun, it gets 3D taillamps and wrap around full-width lightbar, sleek LED headlamps, a sporty front bumper with air curtains on the side, and Volkswagen badging right in the middle of the LED lightbar up front.

In terms of powertrains, the global market gets petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options with a Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). The SUV is offered with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration.  The 1.5-litre turbo petrol mild hybrid engine pushes 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque, and the top speed is limited to 207 kmph. The company claims a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 9.6 seconds. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit on the other hand has a top speed of 230 kmph and is capable of a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 7.3 seconds.

In terms of features, it gets three-zone automatic air conditioner, 10-colour background lighting, sun blinds for the rear doors, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch fully digital driver's dash,  and 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels (depending upon the trim) to name a few.

The safety kit includes adaptive cruise control (ACC), he oncoming vehicle braking when turning function, lane change system (Side Assist), lane keeping system (Lane Assist), an automatic emergency braking system including pedestrian and cyclist monitoring (Front Assist), Park Assist Plus, rear view camera system and dynamic road sign display among others.

We can expect the Volkswagen Tayron to be launched in the first half of 2026, and it likely to have a sticker price north of Rs 46 lakh mark. The Volkswagen Tayron will take the CKD route to India and locally assembled at the brand's manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
