Volkswagen Polo and Vento get ABS as standard in India
Volkswagen India has confirmed that the Polo and the Vento will get ABS as a standard safety feature across all variants. Dual airbags, on the other hand, were always standard across the range for both the cars from 2014. It's worth mentioning that the Volkswagen Ameo received ABS and dual airbags as standard safety features right from the time it went on sale in June 2016.
This update makes dual airbags and ABS as standard features across all the cars in Volkswagen's India line-up. It also makes Volkswagen the second mass car manufacturer in India to standardise these safety features after Toyota did it in September 2016. However, while Toyota announced a price rise of around 2-3 per cent across its range, Volkswagen has confirmed that there will be no change in price.
This update from Volkswagen is a very welcome one in the Indian market. This, especially because vehicular safety has taken a backseat to frills like climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system, due to the outdated government regulations and safety standards, as well as the lack of awareness among consumers.
However, from April 2017, all car manufacturers will have to make ABS and dual airbags standard across the range. It is laudable that certain car manufacturers are already taking the initiative and making these life-saving features standard across the range.
