Mumbai-Pune Expressway speed restrictions updated
New speed restrictions have been established for motor vehicles on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, often known as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. A team of specialists performed a poll to determine the speed limits for automobiles. The limitations will differ between the Ghat portion and the rest of the 94-kilometre high-speed stretch.
The speed limit for cars in the M-1 category (vehicles with a max capacity of 8 people) has been to 100 kmph in flat regions and 50 kmph in ghat areas. While the speed limit on the flat regions remains the same, the limit in the ghat sections have been increased to 60 kmph.

The speed restriction for M-2 and M-3 vehicle (automobiles transporting nine or more passengers), has been set at 80 kmph in flat terrain and 40 kmph in ghats. The speed limit for N category vehicles (all vehicles carrying goods) has been adjusted at 80 kmph in flat areas and 40 kmph in ghat areas.
Lata Phad, superintendent of State Highway Police, Pune division, spoke to Pune Mirror and said, "The decision follows the survey directed by our top officials and conducted by the State Highway officials including Pune division, Raigad zone, Panvel and local police on the expressway limit, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and IRB Infra Development. Based on this survey, we had a joint meeting on April 15 in which a decision was taken."
According to the notice, the speed of cars in the ghats is often relatively low, and light vehicle drivers find it difficult to suddenly reduce their speed, resulting in changes. The speed cameras will monitor the cars.
"The survey was intensively carried out for 15 days, in which it was discussed that even low speed of vehicles can result in mishaps. Therefore, based on the various findings and expert discussions, such a decision has been taken."
