Vikram Kirloskar is the new president of SIAM

A few changes have been made to the top brass at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Vice chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Company, Vikram Kirloskar, has been elected as the new president with Vinod Dasari, managing director of Ashok Leyland, being elected as Vice – President and Lowell Paddock, president and MD of General Motors India, taking responsibilities as treasurer.

The apex body, comprising of leading vehicle and engine manufacturers of India, acts as a bridge between the automobile industry, the government, national and international organisations. It also works closely with concerned stake holders and helps evolve rules, regulations and policies related to the automobile industry.

"Our effort will continue to strive towards building a brand for the Indian Auto Industry which not only leads the manufacturing landscape of the country, but grows in a responsible manner keeping the customer benefits in view" said Kirloskar, post his appointment in the new role.

Also a highlight that happened alongside the elections was the 52nd Annual Convention by SIAM. Themed 'Contribution of Auto Industry in Economic Development', the convention was attended by numerous industry professionals and honchos from Indian and global manufacturers. The convention played stage to various perspectives about the sector's larger role in emerging India.

Vikram Kirloskar is the 4th generation member of the Kirloskar Group. He has had stints in the Government's Development Council for Machine Tools and the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute in Bangalore. He is currently also part of the National Council of CII, the Govt. of India Development Council for Automobiles, the National council for Electric Mobility, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers and is also involved in many activities at MIT and serves on the Visiting Humanities Committee and Educational Council.
