Tata Motors bags contract for 65 EVs from the Kerala State Electricity Board
Tata Motors has received a contract for 65 electric vehicles from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) as part of a tender arrangement. The 65 electric cars include 60 Tata Tigor EVs and 5 Tata Nexon EVs.
This order is part of a competitive pan-India tender launched by KSEB in support of the state's 2030 objective to "Go Green/Carbon Neutral." In the presence of K. Krishnankutty, Minister of Electricity, Antony Raju, Minister of Transport, Dr B. Ashok IAS, Chairman, KSEB, and other Senior Government Officials, a handover ceremony was held today at Kanakakkkunu Palace in Trivandrum.
The Tata Nexon EV's lithium-ion battery is of 30.2kWh capacity and feeds a permanent-magnet AC motor that puts 129PS and 245Nm through the front wheels. This allows for a brisk 0 to 100kmph time of 9.9s, the top speed is limited to 120kmph. The SUV will do over 312km on a full charge as per the ARAI, a real-world range of around 240km can be expected in the real world.
The Tata Tigor EV on the other hand became the first EV to ever be tested by Global NCAP achieved 4 stars for both adult as well as child occupants. The high-voltage Ziptron architecture in the Tata Tigor EV revolves around a 26 kWh battery pack that powers an electric motor making 75PS and 170 Nm. Tata Motors claims a 0 to 60 kmph time of 5.7s for the Tigor EV. The ARAI figure of the Tata Tigor EV is at 306 km.
Tata Motors claims to have sold 15,000 electric vehicles to date and has a market share of over 85 percent in the passenger EV segment in the current fiscal year. The Tata Tigor EV starts at Rs 11.99 lakh while the Tata Nexon EV starts at Rs 14.29 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
