Ola Electric to launch new E-scooter in India by 2021
Ola Electric Mobility has announced that it has acquired Etergo BV which is an electric scooter OEM based out of Amsterdam, Netherlands and it will now enter the premium electric scooter space both globally and nationally. Etergo was founded in 2014 and it developed the AppScooter that was first unveiled in 2018, it uses high-density swappable batteries and has a maximum range of 240km on a full charge.
The post-COVID-19 world has created an opportunity for the EV industry to boost itself as people will now prefer cheap private means of transport for a while due to the risk of contracting the Coronavirus. The company has been working to build an electric vehicle ecosystem to enable 'clean kilometres'.
Ola Electric aims to launch its global electric two-wheeler in India by 2021 and this will further strengthen the company's strong engineering and electric capabilities with Etergo's extensive vehicle development experience. Etergo has experience of working with leading automotive manufacturers like Tesla, General Motors, Ferrari, Jaguar, and BMW. Etergo's team will continue to be based out of Amsterdam as they join Ola Electric.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and Chairman at Ola Electric said, "The future of mobility is electric, and the post COVID world presents an opportunity for us to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility globally. Every year, almost twice the number of two-wheelers are sold across the world compared to cars. With electric, digitally connected capabilities, two-wheelers will further emerge as the most preferred urban mobility paradigm around the world and empower every consumer. We look forward to building the best global capabilities in engineering, design, and manufacturing for these products to be made here in India."
He added, "I am very excited to welcome Bart, Marijn, and the entire Etergo team to Ola Electric and look forward to working closely with them to build towards our vision of making electric mobility, a reality at scale."
