Austrian marque KTM has unveiled the all-new 990 Duke at the EICMA 2023. The performance-oriented litre-class naked motorcycle features a heavily updated engine from its sibling and a new chassis along with a host of electronics.

2024 KTM 990 Duke: Powertrain

Powering the new 990 Duke is an overhauled LC8c engine derived from the KTM 890 Duke R - now equipped with new pistons, a connecting rod, and a crankshaft. This 947cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine producing 123PS at 9,500rpm and 103Nm at 6,750rpm. Mated to this motor is a six-speed gearbox. To suit the higher displacement engine, KTM has given it a heavily reworked stainless steel exhaust.

The motorcycle gets dual 300mm floating discs with four piston radially mounted callipers at the front and a single 240 mm disc at the rear. The new and lighter disc mounts result in lower rotating mass. Not to mention, the 2024 KTM 990 Duke gets fully adjustable WP Apex upside down front forks and a rear monoshock. Meanwhile, the seat height is rated at 825mm.

With the wheels taken from the 2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke R, it uses Bridgestone S22 tyres - 120/70 R17 (f) and 180/55 R17 (r). Then, there is a bi-directional quickshifter, traction control, a five-inch colour TFT display, three ride modes (Rain, Street, and Sport), launch control, coming home light function, Performance and Track modes are optional, a USB Type-C port, Supermoto ABS, a slip-and-assist clutch, and more.

2024 KTM 990 Duke: Chassis and Design

KTM has built the 990 Duke with a completely new steel tube frame with "with specifically calculated levels of frame stiffness". It provides improved handling and traction on the rear wheel and maintains the signature ability of the 890 Duke R, says the brand. There is also a forged aluminium triple clamp, revised swing arm pivot point, a new gravity die-cast swing arm saving 1.5kg, and an aluminium die-cast subframe.

The new 990 Duke has an aggressive and familiar design language reminiscent of the other KTM models. It features a new and distinctive face with the new 390 Duke-like split DRLs, projector headlamps, sharp and angular fuel tank extensions, narrow tail section, and a 14.5-litre fuel tank. The streetfighter comes in two shades: Electric Orange and Black. With this, the 990 Duke weighs only 179kg.

That said, the new KTM 990 is unlikely to be launched in the Indian market but it will go on sale in the other international markets soon.
