Ford EcoBoost 1.0-litre engine wins 2012 International Engine of the Year award
Ford's latest engineering marvel, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has won the 'International Engine of the Year' award at the Engine Expo in Stuttgart, Germany. This is the first time that Ford has won the award in 13 years, ever since the awards were started. The final votes were cast by 76 automobile journalists from 35 countries across the world. The EcoBoost engine, which is small enough to fit on an A4 sheet of paper, also won two other awards â" 'Best New Engine' and 'Best Engine Under 1.0-litre'.
The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine debuted this year on the Ford Focus in Europe and will be offered next in the Ford C-MAX and B-MAX. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost will also be made available in the EcoSport which will be launched in India.
Ferrari won the Best Performance Engine 2012 award for its 570PS, 4.5-litre, V8 engine while GM won the Best Green Engine 2012 for its 1.4-litre range extender in the Opel Ampera and Chevrolet Volt.
