Red Bull Soapbox Race 2012 in Mumbai
Last weekend, the Mumbai crowds were treated to a rare spectacle in the form of India's first Red Bull Soapbox Race. Around 10,000 people thronged the streets of Hill road, Bandra to watch the soapbox carts rushing down the hillside. In all, there were 53 teams which came dressed in all kinds of livery and costumes like Santa Claus, traffic police, politicians, jokers and dabbawaalas to complement their respective carts.
Red Bull Soapbox race is a fun event where decked up carts go down a hill with gravity being the only pulling power. Using unique design ideas approved by Red Bull, the teams have to race the cars against the clock. For the Indian event, the winning team gets an all-expenses paid trip to World of Red Bull at Austria and then to visit Hangar 7 and DTM racing circuit. The first runner up will get to experience the Sunburn Goa 2012. A free entry to the second runner up team has been promised for the most happening New Year party in town. That's not all, the fastest driver wins an 36V Electric Trikke.
The teams winning the 2012 Red Bull Soapbox event were Dabbawallas, Team Tritech and Feni Talks in first, second and third places respectively.
