The much-anticipated 2023 Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-03 motorcycles are slated to hit Indian markets on December 15, 2023. Yamaha, the Japanese bike manufacturer, showcased these models at the recent MotoGP Bharat held at the Buddh International Circuit. Some Yamaha showrooms across the nation have initiated bookings for the 2023 R3 and MT-03. It is expected that these motorcycles will be retailed through Yamaha's Blue Square premium dealerships, entering India initially via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route.

2023 Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-03: Highlights

The heart of the 2023 YZF-R3 and MT-03 is a 320cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, delivering 42PS at 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm of torque at 9,000rpm (29.6Nm of torque in the MT-03). Mated to a six-speed gearbox, the YZF-R3 claims a mileage of 25.4kmpl based on the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC).

Boasting KYB upside-down front forks, an adjustable rear mono-shock, a 298mm front disc coupled with a 220mm rear disc setup, a slipper clutch, dual-channel ABS, a fully digital LCD console, and all-LED lights, the 2023 YZF-R3 and MT-03 gets similar features.

In other news, Yamaha recently updated the YZF-R3 for the 2023 model year, introducing a new purple paint option and LED indicators. The supersport now offers three new colours: Deep Purplish Blue Metallic, Black Metallic, and Dark Blueish Purple Metallic. Similarly, the MT-03 is available in three shades, all likely to be offered in India.

2023 Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-03: Pricing and rivals

Given the expected CBU route for the 2023 YZF-R3 and MT-03, we expect a price tag of between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 4.50 lakh. Upon launch, the 2023 YZF-R3 will face competition from models, such as the KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, and Kawasaki Ninja 400, while the MT-03 is set to rival the 2024 KTM 390 Duke, Harley-Davidson X440, and Triumph Speed 400.
