Mahindra Thar 5-door spied testing once again

The Mahindra Thar 5-door has been on the cards for quite some town and we now get a clear sight of the car and the updates that it will get over the 3-do0r Thar that is currently on sale in India. The bigger version of the Thar is expected to be unveiled in early 2024, with the launch also expected in the first quarter of the same year.

All Thar 5-door test mules spotted thus far appear to have the same front as the 3-door version, but the test mule in these spy images appears to have a number of distinctive features. Mahindra seem to have finally ditched the halogen headlamps for some really upmarket LED projector units. This is one of the biggest upgrades from a visual perspective as most of the current Thar owners switch to aftermarket LED units as is.

The Thar five-door will get a new six-slat grille with a horizontal inlay on each slat, as seen in these spy shots. It also has fender-mounted DRLs that serve as turn indicators, front door-mounted ORVMs, a muscular front bumper, five-spoke wheels, rectangular taillights, a high-mounted stop lamp, and rear bumper reflectors.

We can see a new alloy wheel design that looks to be more straightforward. The size of these new Alloy wheels is not visible, but we assume that the Alloys on this spotted 5-door Thar are 18 inches.

The Thar 5-door will get a single-pane sunroof, armrests for the front and back passengers, a bench seat setup for the second row, and a few additional upgrades. The car will quite obviously have a longer wheelbase which means added space and is most likely to dominate its 3-door sibling in terms of sales.

The Thar five-door will also have a bigger screen than its three-door sister, as seen in earlier spy photographs here. The latter is presently available with a seven-inch touchscreen entertainment system, while the five-door model is slated to include a 10-inch display.

Mahindra Thar 5-door Powertrains

The 2024 Mahindra Thar five-door is projected to be powered by the same 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine seen in the three-door model. The latter, on the other hand, may obtain a greater condition of tune. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are anticipated to be available.

Mahindra already has a number of vehicles set to be launched in the next couple of years but nothing is expected to debut later this year. Mahindra has also showcased the Mahindra Thar.3 concept earlier this month but that is only expected to hit production by 2026 or later.
