Jeep India releases official statement over Compass petrol discontinuation

Jeep has released an official statement regarding the discontinuation of the petrol variants of the Compass. The statement confirms the withdrawal of the Compass petrol from the Indian market. However, Jeep has mentioned that it will continue to invest in its diesel powertrain and explore feasible engine and fuel options based on requirements. Therefore, it seems unlikely that Jeep will reintroduce the discontinued petrol variants.

Jeep India official statement
In the official statement, Jeep India stated, "The Premium SUV segment continues to enjoy a strong demand for diesel powertrain. Jeep India will continue to invest and develop its efficient state-of-the-art 2.0 L MultiJet Turbo Diesel powertrains offering superior torque, lower emissions and an impressive fuel efficiency. Jeep India is committed to the market and has significant product plans for the future. We will continue to explore all possible engine and fuel options in line with the evolving market preferences to offer what is most relevant to our consumers."

Jeep Compass Diesel: Variants and Powertrain
As a result of the discontinuation, the Compass is now only available with diesel variants in India, including the Sport, Limited (O), and Model S. The prices for the Compass diesel range from Rs 21.44 lakh to Rs 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom). The diesel version is equipped with a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine, delivering 172PS and 350Nm of torque. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission, with a 4x4 system also available. Meanwhile, the diesel Compass competes with models such as the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Jeep Compass Petrol: Specifications
Previously, the Compass petrol was offered with a 1.4-litre, inline four, turbocharged petrol engine across three SUV variants: Sport, Limited (O), and Model S. This engine produced 163PS and 250Nm of torque, and it was available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT automatic transmission.

Jeep Compass 1.3-litre and Compass 4Xe

In international markets, the Compass is available with a new 1.3-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, replacing the 1.4-litre unit. The new engine generates 130PS with a manual transmission and 150PS with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The torque output is rated at 290PS. Jeep has also introduced a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the Compass 4Xe using the 1.3-litre engine.
