2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe makes global debut with hybrid tech

Mercedes Benz India just recently launched the GLC SUV in India and now Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the fastback GLC Coupe in 43 and 63 S trim levels for its global markets. Although the new AMGs do not appear to be significantly different from the versions they will replace, they do mark an unsettling departure from the ones they will replace, since both now feature four-cylinder engines. This implies that the older V6 and V8 mills have been phased out.

Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe: Powertrain

First and foremost, the same powertrain found in the normal AMG GLC SUVs that debuted in July may be found beneath this sleeker bodywork. That means the GLC 63 S E Performance's overachieving turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine produces 476PS on its own, plus 204PS from its single electric motor. The total output is 680PS and 1,020 Nm of torque.

It all adds up to a 0-100 kmph time of 3.4 seconds and a peak speed of 275 kmph. While the 63 features a nine-speed automatic transmission with a wet start-off clutch, it also includes Affalterbach's 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.

In the GLC 43, the M139l 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine produces 421PS and 500 Nm of torque. At lower speeds, the belt-driven starting generator provides a short 13-hp boost. The 0-100 kmph time is 4.7 seconds, and the highest speed is limited to 250 kmph, which comes as no surprise.

AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive with torque distribution to the rear is standard, as is an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe: Design

Mercedes has changed the details, but the general appearance is exactly what we expected. In the front, there is an AMG grille as well as an AMG front fascia with bigger air inlets and vertical fins. The LED headlights are now integrated immediately into the grille. Prominent wheel arches exude ferocity and frame wheels ranging in size from 19 to 21 inches.

There are two-piece taillights in the back that provide a sense of breadth. The GLC 43's diffuser-style rear fascia makes way for an additional diffuser board on the GLC 63. The latter also features trapezoidal exhaust ports, whereas on the 43 are rounder.

Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe: Features and Interior

The AMG Ride Control suspension with adjustable damping is standard on both variants. The damper maps are Comfort, Sport, and Sport+, and the 63 is available with active roll stabilization. Both models incorporate active rear-axle steering, which improves agility by effectively reducing the wheelbase.

Front four-piston fixed callipers are standard on the GLC 43, but the 63 has a high-performance composite braking system with six-piston front callipers.

Mercedes has maintained the inside layout identical to the normal GLC Coupe. However, the AMG-specific steering wheel, seats, floor mats, sports pedals, and illuminated door sills are included. The 12.3-inch digital driver's display complements the 11.9-inch portrait-styled infotainment system. Both receive AMG graphics and features.
