Yamaha YZF-R3 gets MY2023 update; India launch soon

The Yamaha R3 recently received a subtle update for M2Y023. Notably, this model year update has also given the India-bound supersport a new colour. About a month ago, the bike maker showcased an array of models at a dealer event held in the country. It displayed a range of new motorcycles, such as the R3, R7, MT-03, MT-07, and MT-09, alongside the flagship R1 M.

Yamaha India used to sell a few premium motorcycles in India, for example, the previous generation models of the R3 and R1 M. The bike maker is likely to the launch of the much-anticipated R3 and R1 M, along with other supersport and streetfighter models in the country soon.

2023 Yamaha YZF-R3: What's new?

The most significant changes for the 2023 R3 come with a new purple colour scheme and LED indicators instead of bulb units. With this, it is now available with three new paint jobs in some international markets: Deep Purplish Blue Metallic, Dark Blueish Purple Metallic, and Black Metallic. Since there are no changes to its bodywork, the 2023 YZF-R3 features the same sporty design as the previous model. Thus, the twin-pod LED headlights, windscreen, fairing, muscular fuel tank, split-style seat, and black alloy wheels dominate its aggressive styling.

2023 Yamaha YZF-R3: Specifications and features

Yamaha has equipped the R3 with KYB upside-down front forks, a rear adjustable mono-shock, a 298mm single disc at the front, and a 220mm single disc at the rear. It also comes with slipper clutch and dual-channel ABS. On top of that, the supersport features an LCD display and all-LED lights. However, the motorcycle does not get a traction control system like the on-sale YZF-R15.

2023 Yamaha YZF-R3: Engine and Transmission

Powering the YZF-R3 is a 320cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that is producing 42PS at 10,750rpm and 30Nm of torque at 9,000rpm. This unit comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. As per World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC), the motorcycle gives out a claimed mileage of of 25.4kmpl.

2023 Yamaha YZF-R3: Price and Rivals

The upcoming Yamaha R3 may cost Rs 3.50 to 4.50 lakh. Upon launch, it will compete against the likes of the KTM RC 390, BMW G 310 RR, TVS Apache RR 310, Kawasaki Ninja 300, and Kawasaki Ninja 400.
