2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe makes global debut with plug-in hybrid powertrains
Mercedes-Benz has introduced the second-generation GLC Coupe and the car will go on sale in India later this year.
The new vehicle is 31mm longer, the same width as, and 55mm taller than the first-gen GLC Coupe, unveiled in 2016. It measures 4,763mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,699mm in height. It also features a 2,888mm wheelbase, which is 15mm longer.
The style is a development of the previous GLC coupe. The grille on the front is relatively similar to that of a traditional SUV, but everything else seems much sleeker. The headlamp is more streamlined than previously and has new inside styling.
The sloping roofline is noticeable from the side, and the 19- or 20-inch (optional) wheels nicely match the body colour of the wheel arches. Even the back appears much more streamlined, particularly the taillights that are located just below the boot lip on the sloped upper section of the rear.
The GLC Coupe lineup consists of two petrol and two diesel models, each with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive, mid-hybrid capabilities, and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The first two models in the lineup are the petrol-powered GLC 200 4Matic and GLC 300 4Matic, which produce 204PS with 320Nm and 259PS with 400Nm, respectively. They are accompanied by the 197PS with 440Nm and 270PS with 550Nm GLC 220d 4Matic and GLC 300d 4Matic powered by diesel engines.
The three plug-in hybrids are the diesel-electric GLC 300de 4Matic with 334PS with 750 Nm, the petrol-electric GLC 300e 4Matic and GLC 400e 4Matic with combined outputs of 313PS with 550 Nm and 381PS with 650 Nm of torque.
The 11.9-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage in what is otherwise a very clean and uncomplicated central console, and the GLC Coupe has received the same interior upgrade as the normal GLC. Three rectangular air vents are located on top of it, and the 12.3-inch digital driver's display is visible behind the recognizable three-spoke Mercedes steering wheel.
The list of goodies also includes items like ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a heads-up display, and an optional 15-speaker Burmester sound system in addition to the displays described above. Several airbags, a 360-degree camera, and autonomous driving tools including emergency braking, active steering aid, and parking assist are all part of the safety package.
Expect the new Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe to go on sale in India later this year.
