The Yamaha Tenere 700 has received a special edition treatment in the form of the Rally Edition, priced at £10,447 (Approx. Rs 9.79 lakh, excluding duty and taxes). The Rally Edition with its blue and yellow paintjob and classic Yamaha speed block graphics pays a tribute to the original rally machine - the XT600Z, ridden by legends Serge Bacou and Jean-Claude Olivie at the Paris Dakar in the year 1983 and 1984. The classic Tenere had helped Yamaha the most successful brand in the Dakar, with XT models taking 18 podiums in the first 6 editions.

As a part of the standard equipment, the Rally Edition comes with a dedicated rally seat that offers a 20mm higher and a straighter riding position, which offers easier body movement as well as comfort on longer journeys. The seats also gets a Yamaha logo imprinted on it, much like the original machine. It sports an Akrapovic slip-on muffler, which helps make the motorcycle lighter and at the same time offer a throaty exhaust note. Further, there is a carbon heat shield, silencer clamp and non-removable dB killer.

When a bike is called Rally Edition, you are expected to take it to places and not just be on smooth tarmac. And just for that, Yamaha is offering a 4mm thick aluminium skid plate for protection of engine and frame. Also, there is an option of equipping a tool box to the skid plate. For radiator protection, the Rally Edition comes with an aluminium cover that has a compact and lightweight design. The equipment list also mentions of aluminium chain guard, flashers with 9-LED indicators and a rubber protection guard for protection to the panels during riding while standing up. Lastly, the Rally Edition comes with off-road grips for better grip in dusty and muddy conditions.

Powering the Yamaha Tenere 700 Rally Edition is a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valves, DOHC parallel-twin, same as the standard bike, making 74PS at 9,000rpm and generating 68Nm at 6,500rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel with the help of a 6-speed gearbox.
