Upcoming Renault Kiger series production begins in India
Renault India has announced the beginning of series production of the upcoming Renault Kiger ahead of the sub-four-metre SUV's launch in India in early March. The production of the Kiger began at the Renault-Nissan plant in Oragadam near Chennai alongside other CMF-A cars like the Kwid, Triber and Magnite. The Kiger is making its global debut in India and dispatches to Renault's dealers have also begun.
The SUV will be powered by the new TCe 100 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engine that debuted in the Nissan Magnite with 100PS and 160 Nm. The N/A 1.0-litre producing 72PS of power and 96Nm of torque continues in the low-spec versions. The car will get both, 5-speed manual and the AMT transmission options. Renault will bring in the CVT transmission for the turbo petrol variants.
Notable features on the Kiger are wireless charging, wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, climate control, multi drive modes, Arkamys 8-speaker audio, ambient lighting, PM 2.5 air filter and backlit steering controls. The Kiger features full-LED headlamps and LED tailamps. Safety features include for airbags, rear parking camera and sensors.
The Kiger has a ground clearance of 205mm, with a 405L boot and 29.1L of interior storage. The Renault will go up against cars like the Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Kia Sonet.
