Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 garner over 10,000 bookings

British marque Triumph has revealed that the recently launched Speed 400 and the upcoming Scrambler 400X have received over 10,000 bookings in India. The brand has garnered these reservations within just 10 days of bookings commencement, which opened on 30 June, 2023. While the Speed 400 costs Rs 2.23 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), Triumph will announce the price for the Scrambler 400X in the coming months. Notably, Bajaj Auto will manufacture both new Triumph offerings at its new facility, called Chakan 2, in Pune, Maharashtra. This new plant has a production capacity of 25,000 units, where it will produce both Triumph and KTM bikes. Bajaj will initially allocate 5,000 units to Triumph, while setting aside the remaining 20,000 units for KTM.

Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400: Engine, gearbox, and power output

Powering the new Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 is a 398.15cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor that delivers 40PS at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox.

Triumph offers the Scrambler 400X in three dual-tone shades, namely Carnival Red with Phantom Black, Matt Khaki Green with Fusion White, and Phantom Black with Silver Ice. Whereas, Speed 400 is available with a choice of three paint schemes: Carnival Red, Phantom Black, and Caspian Blue. The brand has highlighted the difference between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X with a split- and single-piece seat, distinctive exhaust, scrambler-style oval panel and hand guards (only for Scrambler 400X) and a unique set of tyres.

Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400: Features and specifications

Although both motorcycles look dissimilar from each other, they come equipped with the same features, such as a new semi-digital cluster (an analogue speedometer paired with an LCD screen), ride-by-wire, traction control, dual-channel ABS, and all-LED lighting. In fact, both models also get the same 43mm USD front forks and a mono-shock with preload adjustability. Even they have the same 230mm single disc brake at the rear. However, the front brake on the Speed 400 is a 300mm single disc with four-piston calliper, while the Scrambler 400X gets a 320mm single disc brake with a four-piston calliper.

Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400: Rivals

The Speed 400 competes against the Harley-Davidson X440, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, and KTM 390 Duke. while the Scrambler 400X takes on the likes of the Royal Enfield Scram 411 and Yezdi Scrambler.
