Toyota unveils the new 2014 Corolla EU version
The first batch of the eleventh generation of the Toyota Corolla to be sold in the EU and Asian markets has rolled out of the assembly line at the Japanese carmaker's Sakarya facility in Turkey.
Though essentially the same as other versions being introduced in other parts of the world, the 2014 Corolla-EU is a classy looking up-market vehicle unlike the sporty version to be sold in the US markets.
The 2014 Corolla-EU
The Corolla is the world's best selling 4-wheeler. Nearly 4 crore Corollas have been sold worldwide since the first generation was rolled out in 1966.
Aesthetically, the new Corolla is 3.9 inches longer than its siblings and gets bolder grilles and light assemblies - these features are bound to stand out. In terms of practicality, the changed driving position and increased legroom are added bonuses.
Panel gaps have been reduced slightly, though the shut line between bonnet and front fender is noticeably thinner at 4.5 millimeters, from 5.4 millimeters on the previous version.
The new Corolla will be up for sale in the US, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa
The 2014 Corolla has four variants: L, LE, S and LE Eco. Two 1.8-litre four-cylinder engines will be on offer. The L, LE and S variants will get the 1.8-litre engine that churns out 132Ps. The LE Eco will have a 1.8-litre heart that delivers 140Ps. This engine is based on Toyota's Valvematic technology, which is said to up power and mileage by about 5 per cent. Four-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission options are made available on the L variant. The LE, S and LE Eco get the pulley-type CVT.
2014 US-spec Toyota Corolla
Toyota has invested close to 150 million Euros and created 900 employment openings in its Sakarya plant. Total manufacturing capacity at this unit would be 150,000 units per year by 2014. The 2014 Toyota Corolla will be up for sale in several markets including United States, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa.
