Tata Safari Facelift Spied Again; Fresh Details Revealed

Gajanan Kashikar Updated: May 19, 2023, 06:40 PM IST

The test mule of the upcoming Tata Safari facelift has been spotted in Bangalore, Karnataka. Although it was fully camouflaged, several fresh details have come to light. Earlier this year, the Safari, alongside the Harrier, received major updates in the form of the Red Dark Edition versions. However, the mid-cycle facelift is likely to bring a makeover to Tata's flagship SUV.

Upcoming Tata Safari facelift: Design

The Tata Safari facelift test mule, as seen in the spy photos, has a full-body camouflage to hide its new design. However, it still reveals new details through the front slit camouflage, such as new vertical LED headlights and a front light bar running across its width. At the back, reprofiled taillights with a full-length light strip is expected to be on the cards. Additionally, the Tata Safari facelift test mule is equipped with a new set of alloy wheels. Apart from that, it is also likely to come with a redesigned grille and new front and rear bumpers. A new range of paint jobs could be a part of facelift update.

Upcoming Tata Safari facelift: Interior

On the inside, we expect the Tata Safari facelift to feature a revamped cabin that offers a fresh look. Since the Safari Red Dark Edition already debuted a new seven-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Tata could retain the same setup for its facelift. Further, the brand is likely to provide a new steering wheel, a new gear selector, fresh upholstery, and a new interior colour scheme.

Upcoming Tata Safari facelift: Features

In terms of features, Tata already offers it with a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front and rear seats, JBL sound system, ESP, connected car tech, traction control, hill hold and descent control, a six-way electric driver seat, and six airbags, among others. It also gets ADAS but misses out on adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist functions. We expect Tata to bestow the Safari facelift with more ADAS features.

Upcoming Tata Safari facelift: Powertrain

The most significant change could be under the bonnet, as the Tata Safari facelift is likely to get a new petrol engine that was showcased at the Auto Expo in 2023. The new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit produces 170PS and 280Nm of torque. It is also expected to continue with the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel motor with 170PS and 350Nm. If the Safari facelift gets a petrol engine, it will probably be more accessible and Tata might be able price the SUV competitively.
