Tata Punch EV spotted testing once again; launch expected very soon

The forthcoming Tata Punch EV has been spotted testing Indian roads once again. The Punch EV is set to make its debut later this year. In addition to a new electric motor, the vehicle is slated to have a revamped front in comparison to the existing ICE-powered Punch.

Tata Punch EV: Design

The Tata Punch EV has minor design changes from the existing model. It sports a reworked grille, updated bumpers with altered headlight housing, and other EV-specific characteristics such as a full-width light bar. It also has new alloy wheels and rear disc brakes, which were shown in prior spy shots.

It might get new linked LED tail lights at the back. The exhaust pipe on the test mule is a false feature, as the current Punch has a tailpipe design that is buried behind the rear bumper. All of these design changes in the Punch EV foreshadow the ICE Punch's makeover.

Tata Punch EV: Interior

The Tata Punch EV test mule has been spotted previously with a  huge freestanding display on the centre console, as shown in the image above. This device is most likely a 10.25-inch screen, which debuted on the Nexon EV line earlier this year. Other interior changes include an electronic parking brake, a redesigned rotary dial that serves as the gear selector, and an armrest for front-row passengers. The redesigned two-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata logo might also be available.

Tata Punch EV: Powertrain

Tata Motors has not disclosed the battery pack parameters for the Tata Punch EV 2023. It might be offered in two trim levels, Medium Range and Long Range, similar to its brother, the Tiago EV.

The Tiago EV uses the firm's Ziptron high-voltage electric architecture in a larger 24 kWh capacity to return an MIDC-certified range of 314 km. A smaller 19.2 kWh liquid-cooled battery returns 250 km of range. The larger pack returns 75PS and 114 Nm, and the smaller one makes 61PS and 104 Nm.

Tata Motors may unveil the Punch EV later this year, with an ex-showroom pricing of roughly Rs 12 lakh. The Punch EV will be a direct competitor to the Citroen eC3 and a premium alternative to cars such as the Tata Tiago EV and Tigor EV.
