Tata Motors has proudly announced that it has achieved a significant milestone of selling over 100,000 electric vehicles (EVs). Impressively, Tata achieved the remarkable sales figure of 50,000 units in just the past nine months. This achievement comes five years after the introduction of their first electric car, the Nexon EV, in 2020. Throughout this journey, the Nexon EV has emerged as the top-selling EV for Tata. Notably, Tata Motors is the sole car manufacturer in India, offering electric vehicles across various body styles, including SUVs, sedans, and hatchbacks. Their dominance in the EV market grants them a substantial market share of over 80 per cent.

Tata Motors has shared that their electric vehicle fleet, comprising popular models, such as the Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV, has collectively travelled around one billion kilometres. Individual sales figures show that the Nexon EV has surpassed 50,000 units, while the Tiago EV has achieved the noteworthy milestone of 20,000 sales. Furthermore, Tata Motors provides the Tigor EV-based X-Pres T EV catering to commercial and business needs.

By achieving this milestone, Tata Motors has played a pivotal role in nurturing an electric vehicle ecosystem. Its efforts encompass not only raising awareness about EVs but also building essential charging infrastructure, thus fostering widespread EV adoption across the nation.

To continue expanding their EV portfolio, Tata Motors is developing a new line of electric vehicles, including SUVs based on existing models, such as the Punch, Harrier, and flagship Safari. The recent showcase of the Harrier EV concept stands as a testament to this endeavour. In addition, Tata has unveiled concepts such as the Curvv EV and Avinya EV. To support these ambitious plans, the company has committed a substantial investment of $2 billion in EV development over the next five years. It also intends to improve local manufacturing, aiming for an 85 per cent localisation of EV components by 2025, which would contribute to a 15 per cent reduction in EV component costs.
