Renault-Nissan lays out plan to launch new SUVs in India
In a bid to expand its offerings, Renault-Nissan Alliance has revealed plans to bring new SUVs to the Indian market. The new vehicles arriving in the country from the French and Japanese automakers will also comprise a new electric vehicle (EV).
As a part of its plans to launch new SUVs, Renault is likely to bring back the Duster moniker to India. It was introduced in 2013, whereas its production came to an end after almost a decade in 2022. While the second-gen Duster has never come to India, Renault could introduce the third-generation model, which is said to be under development.
The new-gen Duster is expected to use a new platform that will not only be compatible with ICE but also an EV-only powertrain. However, the India-spec new Duster will reportedly use a re-engineered version of the CMF-B platform similar to the MQB-A0-IN used by Volkswagen and Skoda. It is likely to be offered in petrol and hybrid as diesel powertrains are said to be off the table. Furthermore, the all-new Duster may spawn a Nissan derivative but is unlikely to be called the Terrano. The Japanese brand could use a new nameplate instead.
On the other hand, Nissan is developing a Renault Triber-based MPV for the Indian market, which is expected to make its debut soon. With this, the brand will be able to widen its portfolio in the market, as it currently only offers the Magnite. Renault-Nissan also plans to introduce an all-new small electric vehicle (EV) that will likely rival the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.
Meanwhile, Nissan recently showcased its global vehicle lineup, including the Qashqai, Juke, and X-Trail. Notably, the Qashqai and X-Trail have been spotted testing in the country several times.
