Okinawa Autotech has issued a recall for 3,215 units of its Okinawa Praise Pro electric scooter. To avoid any battery related mishaps, the EV manufacturer aims to inspect and repair any flaws with the battery pack on the e-scooters.

Okinawa is the first electric vehicle manufacturer to issue a recall in India. In recent weeks, electric scooter fires have become a "buzz" subject in the country. Initial investigations show that the fires were caused by poor battery health caused by charging abnormalities in e-scooters from a number of well-known manufacturers.

After two of Okinawa's e-scooters caught fire on separate occasions, the decision to recall was made. The batteries of all 3,215 EVs will be tested for loose connections or other damage, and if necessary, fixed free of charge at any Okinawa licenced dealership across India, according to Okinawa.

The nation has been witnessing a number of e-scooters catching fire in the last couple of weeks. An Ola S1 Pro caught fire in the outskirts of Pune, a Pure EV EPluto 7G burst into flames in Chennai and 20 Jitendra EV e-scooters went up in flames while being transported in a container truck from Nashik.

A fire broke out in an Okinawa dealership in Tamil Nadu as well. According to reports, an electric scooter parked inside the showroom was claimed to be the source of the fire.
