New Triumph Speed 400 launched in India at Rs 2.23 lakh
British marque Triumph the new Speed 400 in India at Rs 2.23 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom, Delhi). Notably, only the first 10,000 customers will be able avail special introductory price. The roadster, therafter, will cost Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike maker will announce prices for the Scrambler 400X in the coming months.
Triumph already opened bookings for the both motorcycles on 5 July, which took place shortly after their India debut. It is to be noted that Bajaj Auto will manufacture Triumph's new motorcycles at its new plant called Chakan 2 in Pune, Maharashtra. This plant has a production capacity of 25,000 units, out of which, Bajaj has allocated 5,000 units to Triumph and rest for KTM. Whereas, Triumph will also produce them in Thailand and Brazil at its facilities.
Triumph Speed 400: Price and rivals
Since the price of the Speed 400 is revealed, we expect Triumph to price the new Scrambler 400X Rs 2.50-2.70 lakh. Meanwhile, the Speed 400 competes against the KTM 390 Duke, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, and Harley-Davidson X440.
Triumph Speed 400: Powertrain
Powering the Speed 400 is a new 398.15cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine that makes 40PS at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm. This motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. Meanwhile, the brand will offer two years of comprehensive warranty and service interval of 16,000km.
Triumph Speed 400: Design
The new Speed 400 bears a roadster body style with neo-retro design and comes with a single-piece seat and Metzeler Sportec M9RR Having said that, the Scrambler 400X differentiates itself with a split seat setup, hand guards, and Metzeler Karoo Street tyres. Meanwhile, the Speed 400 is available with three colour schemes: Caspian Blue, Phantom Black, and Carnival Red.
Triumph Speed 400: Specs and features
Triumph's Speed 400 get all-LED lights, traction control, and dual-channel ABS, ride-by-wire, and a new semi-digital instrument cluster. Plus, it come with 43mm upside down front forks and a rear mono-shock with preload adjustability. The Speed 400 gets a 300mm single disc with four-piston calliper and a 230mm single disc brake at the rear. Whereas, the front brake on the Scrambler 400X has a four-piston calliper with a 320mm single disc brake.
