Kia has taken the wraps off the all-electric EV5 at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. Designed to serve millennial families, the compact electric SUV features familiar design and spacious and practical interior. Notably, Kia will initially introduce the all-electric EV5 in China by the end of the year, likely followed by the European market next year. Kia also might consider its new Mercedes-Benz EQB rival for the Indian market. That said, the carmaker will reveal powertrain and other specifications about the EV5 at the Kia EV Day in October this year - an event dedicated to its electric vehicle (EV) range and future electrification plans.

New all-electric Kia EV5: Exterior Design

The new EV5 has taken inspiration from the company's 'Opposites United' design philosophy. It features a sleek, bold, and minimalist styling. The exterior design comprises a digital tiger-face, 'Signature Star Map Lighting' - angular daytime driving lights, chunky wheel arches, unique wheels, strong lines on the bonnet and side profile, slightly slanted roofline, push-back D-pillars, C-shaped light strips at the back, a roof-mounted spoiler, flush door handles, and front and rear skid plates.

The EV5 will be available in nine paint schemes: Snow White Pearl, Clear White, Starry Night Black, Magma Red, Ivory Silver, Frost Blue, Iceberg Green, Tide Blue, and Shale Grey, including an Ivory Silver matte shade.

New all-electric Kia EV5: Interior

Based on its research, Kia said to have completely reimagined the interior of the EV5. As a result, it has created an interior space that is closer in concept and execution to a home lounge than a traditional car cabin. It also draws inspiration from its elder sibling, the all-electric EV9.

Apart from the driver display, touchscreen infotainment system, the interior comes with 64 colours ambient lighting, a bench-style seat between the driver and co-passenger seats, numerous storage spaces, and a panoramic sunroof. In addition, customers can choose from four interior themes and five seat upholstery options, such as two woven choices and one artificial leather option.

New all-electric Kia EV5: Powertrain

As mentioned in the opening paragraph, Kia will reveal detailed specifications of its electric compact SUV later this year. Having said that, we believe the EV5 to come powered by a battery pack with a capacity of about 60-80kWh paired with rear-axle mounted electric motor and a dual-motor setup for the range-topping variant. Above all, it is expected to provide a driving range between 500km and 600km, depending on the drivetrain or battery pack option. In terms of charging, it is not clear whether the electric SUV will utilise the regular 400V or the group's 800V system.
