Citroen Basalt spied without camouflage

Despite little success with the C5 Aircross and C3 Aircross in India, French automaker Citroen is preparing to debut its third SUV. The Basalt is a mid-size coupe SUV slated to join the market in the second part of this year. Based on the Basalt Vision concept, the production model appears fairly similar and has been spied on without camouflage.

There are few design modifications as compared to the Basalt Vision idea, which was digitally presented some time ago. It's pretty similar to Citroen C3 Aircross but with a distinctive Coupe sloping roofline.

Positioned above the C3 Aircross, the spotted Basalt looks to be a mid-spec variation, lacking features like alloy wheels and projector LED headlights shown on the concept vehicle; higher-spec trims are expected to provide a whole range of luxury comforts.

While Citroen has yet to reveal the interior of the Basalt, we expect it to resemble the C3 Aircross with distinctive elements and additional features. The Citroen Basalt is likely to have a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital driver's display, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, and push-button engine start/stop. Its safety features may include up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Citroen has not disclosed detailed powertrain specifications for the Basalt but is anticipated to feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with options for a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This motor is good enough for 110PS and up to 205Nm.

The Citroen Basalt SUV is expected to compete with the new Tata Curvv SUV when it launches later this year. The SUV's pricing is expected to start at Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
