New-gen MG6 hybrid sedan showcased in China, India bound?

Chinese car company - SAIC Motor Corporation has revealed the new-gen MG6 sedan in China. The second-gen MG6 sedan comes eight years after the first gen was introduced. The new gen MG6 gets a completely new design and have been loaded with the latest tech and connectivity options. Additionally, it gets a new hybrid powertrain, that's a first for MG. The new-gen MG6 will specifically cater to the Chinese market with its official launch scheduled to happen later next year. This might be then followed with its international launch in other markets.

The new-gen MG6 looks nothing like the previous model as it takes its styling inspiration from the E-Motion coupe concept, that was showcased earlier this year. The front of the MG6 sedan gets an aggressive design with a larger front grille and sleek headlights flowing outwards, looking a tad similar to that of the Mazda CX-5. The front bumper gets its own set of contours to make the sedan look larger than it actually is. The side profile too is as appealing as the front with sweeping lines and a solid waistline. Even the C-pillar merges with the boot lid in an interesting manner.

The 2018 MG6 sedan takes its styling inspiration from the E-Motion coupe concept

The cabin of the new-gen MG6 sedan has been thoroughly updated and it now looks inspired from more premium brands. The instrument cluster is larger at 12.3-inch and has a sporty display. Additionally, it gets a new and modern 10.1-inch infotainment system. The sedan also claims to be more spacious than the previous offering.

The new-gen MG6 is based on the modular platform as that used by the Chinese brand Roewe i6, since both the brands are owned by SAIC. Powering the new MG6 is a three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor which combined with the electric powertrain makes a total of 228PS and 622Nm. It is also being said that a 1.5-litre powertrain from the MG GS crossover will be offered on the MG6 sedan.

The company claims that the MG6 will be more spacious than the previous gen model

MG Motor India, the completely owned subsidiary of SAIC Motor Corp, will be beginning its operations in the country in 2019. In line with its plan, the company recently completed the acquisition of GM's Halol plant. The first product, that is believed to be a SUV, will roll out from the MG's Halol plant and will be launched in the Indian market in 2019. The company has not dropped any hints of considering the MG6 sedan to India. However, if it does arrive, the MG6 will lock horns with the Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia.
