Mercedes-Benz has revealed the Vision Iconic coupe concept at the brand's design house in Shanghai, which hosts the brand's most advanced technologies.

- Features Solar Paint, Level 4 automated driving and neuromorphic computing
- Gets an illuminated grille inspired by vintage models

The front face has been adorned with an iconic grille that pays homage to the traditional chrome grille. The grille draws inspiration from the upright grilles of legendary models such as the W 108, W 111 and the Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman. It gets a wide chromed frame, a smoked-glass lattice structure and integrated contour lighting for the iconic grille. The upright star on the bonnet is illuminated as well. The Mercedes logo at the rear, on the other hand, is not illuminated.

If you look at the profile, the car runs on seven-spoke aero optimised wheels that come shod with low-profile tyres. It gets a long bonnet with short overhang at the rear and shorter at the front. The door receives polished brass door handles and the fenders get curved vents. There are chrome accents under the bumper, around the glasshouse and under the doors. The car gets a swept-back cabin and sloping rear roofline, the rear end gets sleek LED tail-lights.

The interior features a floating glass structure called "Zeppelin", as you open the door, the instrument cluster comes to life with analogue animation inspired by high-end chronographs. The pillar-to-pillar screen concept looks beautiful. And there are four clocks at the centre and one is shaped like the brand logo, acting as an AI companion.

The company is also testing Solar Paint that could be seamlessly applied to the bodywork of electric vehicles, similar to a wafer-thin paste. This can add additional range that could be harnessed from the sun. The coating does not contain any rare earths or silicon and can be easily recycled. The solar cells have a high efficiency of 20 percent and generate energy continuously – even when the vehicle is switched off.
