Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new-generation E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) in China, increasing legroom and comfort in the popular luxury sedan. The new E-Class LWB will be on sale in China in the following months, and it is slated to join the Mercedes-Benz India lineup in late 2024.

Mercedes-Benz E-class LWB: Design and Dimensions

The dimensions of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB are 5,092mm in length, 1,880mm in width, and 1,493mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,094mm. It is 18mm longer and 20mm wider than its predecessor, with the 15mm larger wheelbase accounting for the majority of the 18mm length increase.

Like the current-generation E-Class, India will receive the LWB body type next year, and it will resemble the one displayed in China. India was the first and still remains the only market for the right-hand drive E-Class LWB.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB appears to be the same as the normal wheelbase model. The notable distinction is the enlarged rear door with a quarter glass positioned behind the rear door, as opposed to the rear window being integrated into the rear door. The extended wheelbase gives the E-Class LWB additional legroom and knee room, yet the cabin retains the same interior trimmings and equipment as the normal model.

The E-Class LWB also has air suspension and a rear-wheel steering system that can turn the rear wheels up to 4.5 degrees.

Mercedes-Benz E-class LWB: Interior and Features

The interior of the LWB E-Class is similar to that of the normal E-Class. The vehicle displayed in China comes in a variety of variations with varied feature lists, including power reclining rear seats with an ottoman function. The "Superscreen" is standard in some configurations. Given the significant proportion of E-Class purchasers who are chauffeur-driven, Mercedes-Benz India is still considering delivering this function in India.

Three integrated displays are housed behind a single glass panel on the dashboard in the Mercedes Supercreen configuration. The instrumentation is displayed on a 12.2-inch screen facing the driver, while the main infotainment unit is displayed on a 14.4-inch screen in the middle. A third screen is also visible to the front passenger.

Mercedes-Benz E-class LWB: Powertrain and Pricing

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB 2024 will be available in China with a six-cylinder petrol engine, while the six-cylinder diesel, namely the 350d, is slated to be the major choice in India. The German brand will also offer a four-cylinder petrol engine, with a four-cylinder diesel available on cheaper trim levels but again, these most likely make it to our Indian shores.

The Mercedes-Benz E-class is priced from Rs 75 lakh to Rs 88 lakh in India. So expect the LWB variant to cost upwards of Rs 1 crore once it comes to India. All prices are ex-showroom.
