Mahindra files a trademark for upcoming electric XUV models

Mahindra has registered several trademarks for names that its forthcoming electric SUVs may use. The recently trademarked names XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO, and XUV 1XO refer to the electric versions of the XUV700, XUV500, and XUV300, as well as an all-new compact SUV EV. The first of these upcoming EVs from Mahindra is set to be launched in December 2024.

All of these cars are intended to be developed on the current INGLO platform. For larger SUVs, battery packs will be between 60 and 80 kWh in capacity. While the XUV 7XO and 5XO may have both single-motor and dual-motor AWD options, the XUV 3XO and 1XO will most likely receive only a single electric motor.

The XUV 7XO, 5XO, and XUV 3XO will have a range of 400-450 km, while XUV 1XO may have a range of 200 to 250 km. The XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 names that were earlier given to the cars are now expected to be changed to these new names that are trademarked.

A triple-screen dashboard was recently spotted in an XUV.e9 test mule. The triple-screen device spans nearly the whole width of the dashboard. It allows for a symmetrical design format, which is not achievable with the common dual-screen system found in many SUVs.

It is possible that the XUV 7XO and 5XO could get this new triple-screen dash. In comparison, XUV 3XO and X1O may continue with a solo touchscreen infotainment system. Bigger SUVs could get additional connectivity and safety features. The ADAS kit could be expanded in the case of XUV 7XO and 5XO. XUV 3XO and 1XO could also get some of the critical ADAS features such as blind spot detection, traffic sign recognition and driver drowsiness detection.

Currently, Mahindra only offers the Mahindra XUV400 in its EV portfolio but that will change by December 2024 when Mahindra launches the first of these new EVs. Following that will be the Mahindra BE.05 SUV, which will be on sale in October 2025.
