Global NCAP has chosen to end its 'Safer Cars for India' campaign by December 2023, with the launch of Bharat NCAP. The move coincides with Global NCAP's collaboration with the recently created Bharat NCAP, the world's tenth NCAP program. Global NCAP has inked an agreement with the Central Institute for Road Transport (CIRT) to give technical assistance to Bharat NCAP.

Safer Cars for India, a campaign established by Global NCAP in 2013, has been instrumental in increasing awareness and lobbying for safer automobiles on Indian roads. Over the last decade, the campaign has submitted more than 50 models to rigorous crash tests, totalling 62 tests. The emphasis has always been on assessing the construction quality and safety features of passenger cars manufactured in India.

Instead, Global NCAP will share its car testing knowledge from the previous ten years with Bharat NCAP. It would provide the many SoPs linked to the process of picking automobiles and having the tests examined, as well as the best practices for engaging with the media, as well as recommendations for manufacturers' use of test findings in ads.

Global NCAP Executive President David Ward said, "We absolutely don't want to be seen as a rival program to Bharat NCAP at all. It'd be very confusing to the consumer, and it doesn't serve anybody's interests."

Over 30 vehicles from various manufacturers have been lined up for testing as part of the Bharat NCAP effort. Bharat NCAP development began in 2011 and has taken over a decade to complete. India-made automobiles are projected to attain improved safety standards and more acceptance in global markets with the help of Global NCAP and its wealth of knowledge.

Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited said "We welcome the BNCAP safety initiative by Govt. of India and believe this effort will raise safety standards, empower consumers with vital information, and make Indian roads safer for all. At Hyundai Motor India, we remain committed to delivering the highest safety standards across our entire product range".
