Could the Skoda Epiq be a perfect fit for India in 2025?

Skoda has announced the details of its upcoming all-electric baby SUV, dubbed the Skoda Epiq. Skoda Auto refers to it as a design study rather than a concept, and the production-ready vehicle will be launched in 2025. This upcoming Skoda SUV is the second of six electrified models.

Skoda Epiq: Design

The Epiq will measure about 4,100mm, making it slightly smaller than the Skoda Kushaq. With its modest external proportions, Skoda emphasizes a "spacious interior and up to 490 litres of luggage capacity."

The Epiq represents the newest iteration of Skoda's Modern Solid design language, with crisp lines, modest detailing, and clean surfaces. The clamshell bonnet has the new Skoda lettering on the front. The grille is a smooth, glossy black surface known as Skoda's Tech-Deck, which conceals cameras and sensors for driver assistance systems. The lower front bumper has been kept basic, with eight rectangular slats to cool the battery pack. The matrix LED headlights are separated from the daytime running lights.

The side profile has substantial wheel arches wrapped by black panelling, a noticeable shoulder line extending over the rear wheels and a shark-fin c-pillar resting above. On the back, we can see the same eight rectangular slats and an overall clean appearance. The rear, like the front, features Y-shaped LED taillights.

Skoda Epiq: Powertrain

The technology will come from the VW ID.2, which is being built using the modular electric drive platform (MEB) at its most recent evolutionary stage. Although Skoda has said that the Epiq would have a range of up to 400 kilometres, it has not provided any other technical information.

The Volkswagen prototype included two distinct battery capacities - 38kWh and 56kWh - with the bigger pack powering a front-mounted motor. VW promised a greater range of around 450 kilometres with the bigger battery, with quick 125 kW DC charging which boosts the battery from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes.

Skoda Epiq: Interiors

The cabin of the Skoda Epiq concept has a clutter-free design with a dual-tone shade. It has a two-spoke steering wheel, a 5.3-inch Virtual Cockpit, and a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The dashboard has simpler lines with a gloss-black finish going across. Skoda claims there will be wireless charging and several open storage spots around the interior, including a trunk size of up to 490 litres.

Skoda Epiq: Name and Production

The Epiq name is based on Skoda's EV naming policy, with E representing electric and Q indicating that the car is an SUV. Epiq comes from the ancient Greek word "epos," which means "word" or "verse," but also "tale" or "poem." Volkswagen's Brand Group Core representatives, Škoda, Cupra, and Volkswagen, will jointly develop and produce the SUV crossover in Pamplona, Spain.
