The Outdoor is an upgrade of the Concept Active Tourer that was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last year. The size and powertrain of the Outdoor remain the same as the earlier version. The Concept Active Tourer previews BMW's upcoming 1-Series GT (GT stands for Gran Turismo).

The CAT Outdoor is a hybrid that combines a 1.5-litre engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion high-performance battery which gives the vehicle an average fuel-efficiency of 40kmpl. The CO2 emissions stand at less than 60 g/km. The vehicle has a peak power output of 190PS. The CAT Outdoor is 4,350mm long, 1,833mm wide and 1,576mm tall, all this on a wheelbase across 2,670mm.

It can be driven solely on electric power for 20-30km. It does a 0-100 dash in less than 8 seconds, with a top speed of 200kmph.

The revealed car wore a Gold Race Orange paintjob and attractive 20-inch alloys. The car comes with an inbuilt two-bicycle carrier. The carriers can also be stored into the side structure of the car or the load compartment floor so that it doesn't interfere with space inside when not in use.

BMW speaks about this concept as a "fresh route to combining sporting aesthetics and style with compact dimensions and functionality". There is no plan to mass produce BMW's Concept Active Tourer or the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor, but both of these will inspire the 1-Series GT to be unveiled next year.
