Alfa Romeo Milano is the Italian brands first ever EV
Alfa Romeo has finally unveiled the Milano, a much-awaited subcompact SUV that also represents the brand's first step into the electric car market. Showcasing a fresh look for the legendary Italian company, it's geared mainly at Europe's compact SUV segment, where you may have both a hybrid and a completely electric version.
Alfa Romeo Milano: Powertrains
In terms of powertrain, electric models are equipped with a single motor and a 54 kWh battery. Alfa Romeo's first EV will be available in two trims: Elettrica and Veloce. In the former configuration, it produces 156PS and has a WLTP cycle range of 410km.
The Veloce model boosts output to 240PS and includes a mechanical self-locking differential with tuned steering, better suspension, large brakes, and bigger 20-inch wheels with performance tyres. Both electric variants can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes using 100 kW DC fast chargers.
Stellantis' e-CMP platform, which underpins the Jeep Avenger, serves as the foundation for the new electric vehicle. The combustion-powered Milano Ibrida will be available in 2025, driven by a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 136PS and coupled to a 48-volt battery electric motor incorporated into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power will be transferred to the front or all four wheels.
Alfa Romeo Milano: Design
The front end is fairly busy-looking thanks to the extended matrix LED headlights, which are joined to thin intakes by black trim. The redesigned scudetto grille is partially concealed in the completely electric model. The front bumper is influenced by the Quadrifoglio variants of the Giulia and Stelvio, with huge intakes and an integrated splitter.
The Alfa Romeo Milano is an excellent match for the European B-SUV market, measuring 4,170mm in length, 1,780mm in width, and 1,500mm in height.
The side has a crisper surface, with a basic crease lower down and a higher one that sweeps over the rear wheel arch to highlight the car's back shoulders. 18-inch wheels are standard unless you upgrade to performance variants. The rear sports a swept-up tail, a one-piece lighting element with a compact LED signature, and the Alfa Romeo script badging.
Alfa Romeo Milano: Interiors
The interior incorporates the brand's "Cannochiale," inspired by its symbols, with twin 10.25-inch TFT and infotainment panels. Peugeot's infotainment system features Alfa Romeo typefaces and colours. The optional sports package includes Sabelt seats covered in Alcantara, while other trims use Spiga vinyl and fabric upholstery with a leather steering wheel.
Despite its diminutive dimensions, the Milano has the "largest boot in its class for a full BEV," with up to 400L of cargo capacity. Alfa provides many driver-assist systems, including optional Level 2 autonomous driving. Semi-autonomous parking may also be achieved using 360-degree parking sensors and a 180-degree back camera.
