The last of the Mercedes V12 for India before the new one arrives.

The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is promising elevated levels of luxury and class in the ultra-luxury packaging that Maybach badges come with. Globally, the updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class introduces a wide range of changes, including the integration of the new MB.OS operating system, next-generation MBUX interface, and expanded MANUFAKTUR customisation options. The facelift also brings newly developed electrified six- and eight-cylinder engines. However, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the V12 will continue in select markets, including India, with the outgoing model.

The current Mercedes-Maybach S 680 is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine producing 612PS and 900 Nm of torque, paired with 4-MATIC all-wheel drive. Performance figures include a 0-100 km/h time of 4.0 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Despite its performance credentials, the S 680 remains focused on rear-seat comfort and refinement.

The upcoming Maybach S 680 is going to be powered by the M 177 EVO engine, delivering 612 PS + 23 PS and 850 Nm + 205 Nm for greater power and sharper response, making it on par with the V12's performance.

Inside, the Maybach S-Class offers features such as executive rear seating, ambient lighting with multiple colour themes, and a plethora of material customisations. The global update further enhances the cabin experience with improved insulation, predictive AIRMATIC suspension, and advanced driver assistance systems.

The Maybach S-Class now offers a leather-free interior option, reflecting a shift toward more sustainable luxury without compromising on quality. The "stormy grey" theme combines ARTICO man-made leather with Mirville textile and premium detailing, delivering the same level of comfort, craftsmanship and durability as traditional leather interiors.

In terms of dimensions, the S 680 measures 5,484mm in length with a 3,396mm wheelbase, supporting its limousine proportions and rear-seat focus.

Mercedes-Benz India will bring a limited allocation of the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 to the country this year, based on the current pre-facelift S-Class that continues in the portfolio. The development comes ahead of the facelifted Maybach S-Class, expected around 2027, which is set to transition to electrified V8 powertrains, potentially marking the end of the V12 for India.

With emission regulations tightening globally and luxury carmakers moving toward electrification, the shift to V8 powertrains in the new model reflects a broader industry trend. For India, this limited allocation of the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 V12 is likely to attract significant interest, as it could represent the last opportunity to own a V12-powered Maybach in the market.
