2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport spied testing, hybrid in the works?
Land Rover is working on the Discovery Sport facelift that could be launched in the international markets later this year. The SUV has been spied testing in a heavily snow-clad region of what looks like the Arctic Circle. Going by the images, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport looks production ready. While the camouflage has neatly hidden the changes and tweaks that have been given to the facelift, we believe the design updates could be subtle in nature. The powertrain options are expected to remain the same whereas the feature list might be seen an update.
The front profile gets a sleeker headlight design, similar to the Velar while the grille and the bumper are expected to get a styling revision too. The side profile remains largely similar to the present offering, except for the new alloy wheel design. The ground clearance looks unchanged, from the images. Also, the rear profile too is expected to get a design update with new lights and a tweaked bumper. Land Rover might stick to the current dimensions for the 2020 offering as well. Coming to the cabin, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport will come with additional features in the form of the new touch pro duo 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Car Play connectivity. Also, the second screen placed on the dash will have controls to operate the terrain management system, ventilated seats and automatic climate control.
Importantly, it is being said that the undercarriage of the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport will be updated to make more space to accommodate the batteries for the hybrid powertrain. The one that arrives this year will be more of a refresh as in 2022, Land Rover is expected to launch the all-new Discovery Sport. If the facelift of the Discovery Sport will delay those plans is what needs to be seen. The Land Rover Discovery Sport competes with the likes of the Volvo XC30, BMW X3 and also the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUVs. We believe the India launch could happen sometime mid next year.
