2016 Los Angeles Auto Show: New Mazda CX-5 unveiled
Mazda has arrived at the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show with the CX-5. The changes that have been done to the SUV include a sharper and sportier design, more premium interior and also improved handling, says the Hiroshima-based car manufacturer. The Mazda CX-5 is an important product in the company's portfolio as it accounts for 25 per cent of the brand's global car sales and is sold in more than 120 countries.
The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is based on the brand's Kodo design language, also seen on the other offerings. While the design does bare resemblance to the previous model, it now comes with a sharper lines on the front profile. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 looks a tad more aggressive and gets a lower stance. Mazda claims that the front and the rear tracks have been increased by 10mm while the A-pillar have been pushed back by 35mm. The new CX-5 measures 10mm more in length and 20mm lower than the previous version. Additionally, Mazda has introduced a new soul red shade on the CX-5.
Even though the Mazda CX-5 had an impressive exterior design, the cabin always attracted criticism especially when compared to the CX-3 and CX-9 SUVs. The cabin features a completely revamped cockpit-like design. The central console has been positioned higher and so is the automatic level which sits 50mm higher. Mazda offers soft-touch materials on the trim with silver highlights on the knobs and buttons. The new CX-5 comes equipped with a central infotainment screen with a better resolution. It will also be available with a new colour head-up display, like the one in the Mazda3.
Powering the 2017 Mazda CX-5 include Skyactiv family of D 2.2-litre diesel, G 2.0-litre and G 2.5-litre petrol engine options. Mazda has not still disclosed the performance and efficiency numbers of the new engine options. Mazda also states that the suspensions have been tweaked for a softer ride set-up. The premium versions of the CX-5 will come equipped with Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) that automatically controls vehicle speed with respect to the speed and distance to the car ahead of it. Also, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 comes with G-Vector control that adjusts the torque delivery of the motor while cornering to reduce body roll.
