2014 Volvo S80 facelift launched in India at Rs 41.35 lakh
Volvo has launched the new face lifted version of its flagship S80 sedan in India. The price for the new model is Rs 41.35 lakh ex-Delhi. There are two variants of offer- D4 is priced at Rs 41.35 while the D5 is priced at Rs 44.80 lakh.
The design of the previous model has been largely carried over to the facelift with some small changes. The most notable change is in the grille which has shrunk and now looks smaller and wider than before. The bumper has been reworked and the headlights now get daytime running lamps. Changes to the wheel's design and the rear bumper complete the visual upgrades.
Interior has a smooth and functional layout with an all-black theme having wooden inserts on the dashboard and a bit more on the central console which also features a floating design. Number of buttons are a bare minimum and easily accessible. The colourful digital instrument cluster can be customized to display information pertaining to fuel efficiency or performance - whichever you choose. Seats are comfortable at both the front and rear with ample legroom. Interior is quite spacious and has been built with high quality materials.
The S80 is available only with diesel engines coming in the D4 and D5 variants. The D4 is a five cylinder engine displacing 2000cc and giving figures of 165PS/400Nm. The top spec gets the D5, five cylinder, 2.4litre engine generating 215PS of max power and 440Nm of torque. This when coupled to a six-speed autobox completed the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.8 seconds and has a combined fuel efficiency of 12.5kmpl. The top speed is restricted to 225kmph.
This is one of the safest cars that money can buy. Features on this car such as advanced ESP and headlamps that bend while taking corners, combined with Volvo's IntelliSafe function- a system which applies brakes automatically when the car senses an accident, makes this car truly safe, reliable and stable.

The latest version of City Safety prevents collisions up to 50 km/h. This laser based feature senses emergency situations beforehand and pre-charges the brakes to increase the impact of braking or even deploys the brakes if in case they aren't timely applied. Digital TFT Instrument Cluster with 3 Modes: Thin Film Transistor (TFT) is the latest technology user in monitors and televisions. You can choose from 3 graphic display themes "Elegance (Amberish), ECO (Greenish), and Performance (Sporty Reddish)". The driving modes transform the interactive dashboard, monitor your driving, and assist you in maintaining optimization and not to mention the mood. Gear Shift Paddles: The three-spoke steering wheels can now be accompanied by paddle shifters for cars specified with automatic transmission available in D5 Summum.. They turn the automatic box into a manual with the benefit of gear shifting with both hands on the wheel. The paddle shifters give the enthusiastic driver an additional edge, particularly when powering round twisty roads. And for the added comfort of drivers in Sweden and other cold countries, the steering wheel can also be specified with heating for increased comfort on cold winter days. LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL): Together with wider grille and daylight running lights, they give our cars a striking road presence. Dual Exhaust Tail Pipes, Integrated: The new integrated tailpipes, which can be specified with some engine variants, are the physical and visual link to the technically advanced engines. But it is not just about beautiful design: the designers have had to cope with the fact that at operating temperature, the tailpipes have to remain perfectly in place despite the exhaust system expanding in length by up to 25 mm.
