Volkswagen rolls out its 250,000th Passat in just two years from Chattanooga
Volkswagen's Chattanooga plant has rolled out its 250,000th Passat in just two years. The milestone car was a TDI variant with Night Blue colour and black leather upholstery for the interiors. The first Passat came off the Chattanooga line on April 18, 2011 and the 100,000th on May 31, 2012. Volkswagen Chattanooga claims to be the first and still only car factory worldwide with a LEED Platinum certification. It also has the largest solar park in the world.
While last year the plant operated at its 150,000-unit capacity, lower demand for the face-lifted Passat plus suspension of its workers this time around meant that Volkswagen may not be able to do an encore. Frank Fischer, CEO and chairman of Volkswagen Chattanooga said "Two years ago our team members had just learned to build cars. Today we celebrate a quarter of a million Volkswagen Passats from Chattanooga. I am very proud of this team."
