Updated 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, Cabriolet coming to Frankfurt

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet. Mercedes-Benz will showcase the updated models at the Frankfurt Auto Show 2017. The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet receive new powertrains in the form of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine in different states of tune for the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560 Coupe and 2018 Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe, while the 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 (not available in India yet) retains its 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 motor. Minor cosmetic changes to the nose and OLED taillamps on the outside and a fresh interior with large 12.3-inch displays and better smartphone integration round up the major update list. The S-Class Coupe and S-Class Cabriolet also get the same level of autonomous driver assist system as the 2018 S-Class Sedan, which we recently drove. The S-Class Coupe and the two AMG versions are priced between Rs 2.06 crore to Rs 2.66 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).

2018 Mercedes-Benz S560 Coupe replaces the S 500 in company's line-up

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560 Coupe and Cabriolet will replace the current Mercedes-Benz S500 in the company's line-up. The S560 is powered by a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 470PS, 14 more than the S500's 4.7-litre motor which it replaces. Mercedes-Benz claims the S560 will sprint to 100kmph in 4.6 seconds. While the Mercedes-AMG S 65 is not yet launched in India, the rate at which the company is opening AMG Performance Centres in the country suggests that the S 65 might make it here soon too.

The same motor is will also replace the 4.7-litre engine on the 2018 Mercedes-AMG S 63, albeit producing 612PS and 900Nm, for a 0 to 100kmph run in 3.5 seconds. Aesthetically, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560 gets a new chrome-plated front splitter, while the AMG versions get the new 'Panamericana' vertical slatted grille, also seen on the new 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R. The three-dimensional front splitter reduce lift at high speed. All three versions get larger front air intakes, new OLED taillamps, and two new alloy wheel designs. This results in sharper-looking Coupes.

Interior gets 2 12.3-inch screens, more plush leather trim, Apple CarPlay integration, and wireless smartphone charging

Updates to the chassis include a more rigid sub-frame for more stability, as well as improvements to the Magic Body Control system. Inside, the cabin gets two 12.3-inch screens joined together under a single glass, as seen on thenew Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Other small improvements include more ergonomic steering-mounted cruise control buttons which replace the separate stalk, as well Apple CarPlay integration and wireless charging pad for smartphones. The updated autonomous driver assistance package from the 2018 S-Class sedan is now also integrated to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet.
