Toyota Urban Cruiser scores 4-stars in Global NCAP safety test

Today, Global NCAP releases the results of the second round of 2022 #SaferCarsForIndia crash testing, with the Toyota Urban Cruiser receiving four stars for adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection.

Frontal crash safety for passengers is currently tested by Global NCAP, but not side impact, electronic stability control (ESC) or pedestrian protection. From July 2022, these standards will be part of the new Global NCAP evaluation processes.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser was put to the test in its most basic safety configuration, with two front airbags and ABS. During the examination, it was discovered that the construction was sturdy and that it provided enough protection to crucial adult body parts.

Both child passengers were well protected by the CRS equipped with ISOFIX anchorages. The three stars for kid passenger protection are explained by the unavailability of 3-point belts in all sitting positions and the high neck biomechanical values in the frontal crash.

The Urban Cruiser is powered by the same engine as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza it's based on. This means the K15B 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol with 105PS and 138Nm. This is paired with a five-speed manual and four-speed torque-convertor automatic. The Toyota Urban Cruiser gets the 48V mild-hybrid set up for the AT versions.
