Toyota Innova Hycross spotted testing again ahead November launch

The upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross has been spied yet again testing on Indian roads. The car is expected to make its debut later this month.

The front fascia design was earlier seen in the teaser image, which has a wider hexagonal grille and more angular and aggressive-looking headlights on either side. These are anticipated to be LED devices with built-in daytime-operating LEDs. The front bumper will probably be reprofiled and get a new fog light housing, while the bonnet gets pronounced crease lines.

The big news with this generation change for the Innova is that it now moves to the TNGA architecture, moving from the earlier rear-drive, ladder frame chassis to a front-driven, monocoque layout. Another significant change is that the Toyota Innova Hycross will now get a hybrid powertrain. This powertrain is expected to be unrelated to the one seen in the Camry and could be the same as the hybrid system as seen in the Corolla Cross SUV and Voxy MPVs available internationally.

This uses a 1.8-litre Atkinson cycle petrol motor that puts out 98PS and 142 Nm that pairs with a 72PS and 163 Nm electric motor with an e-CVT in the mix. The Innova Hycross will be a petrol-only offering for the first time now and lower-spec models could get a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol with 170PS and 202 Nm, again paired with a CVT.

The Toyota Innova Hycross should come with a longer list of features too with this generation change. Expect to see LED lighting, a larger touchscreen, digital instrumentation, 360-degree cameras, connected tech and maybe even some level of ADAS functions.

Prices for the Toyota Innova Hycross should start from Rs 20 to 22 lakh. The Toyota Innova Hycross is expected to be unveiled by November-end with a launch expected by early 2023. The Innova Crysta is expected to continue to be sold alongside the Hycross possibly in its lower variants.
