Top five showcars of 2015
The year is ending and looking back, there were a lot of concepts that we absolutely loved. But here is our list of the five that we loved the most and wish would make it to production.
Mazda RX-Vision
Why? Because we cried when the RX-8 went out of production. We had thought that the last of the rotaries had died and even though it had never made it to our country, we cried buckets full. But then along came the Tokyo motor show and what was unveiled at the Mazda stand? The all new RX-Vision in all its Wankel-powered glory! The car uses Mazda's new Skyactiv-R rotary engine that promises more efficiency, better emissions and better reliability. As much as this car is all about the return of the rotary for us, there is no denying that the shape is one of the most sensual ones we have seen this year. That long sleek hood and that shapely rear are the stuff our dreams are made of.
Honda 2&4
We're talking about Honda the motorcycle company, not the car company. And no, we're not adding this one to the wrong list. The 2&4 is actually a car that is a motorcycle, but is still a car. Confused? We were too. It is a concept that is a lot along the lines of the KTM X-bow and the Ariel Atom. According to Honda it features a cabin-less structure that promises to deliver all of the thrills of being on a motorcycle despite being confined to four wheels. All we know is, it looks a lot like a F1 car and we all know that almost everything that looks like a F1 car is usually quite fast. And in case looks aren't guarantee enough, it is powered by the same V4 motor from the RC213V. So that's a four wheeled motorcycle that makes over 200PS, can rev up to 14,000rpm and weighs only 405kg. That good enough for ya?
Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6
This is what happens when Bentley sets out to prove a point. Bentleys have always been identifiable as Bentleys. With the EXP 10 Speed 6 Bentley has taken a dramatic departure from their usual design language. The only identifiable bit is the signature grille. Everything else is sportscar-esque. From the side it is more Aston Martin like than Bentley. No boxy proportions, only smooth flowing lines. Even at standstill it looks fast. There have been no details about the car that has been revealed except for the space age interiors. We don't even know what engine will power it. All we know is that the way it looks, we just might be falling in love.
Porsche Mission E
If the future looks like this, we do not mind the combustion engine kicking the bucket. The Mission E is Porsche's interpretation of an electric car. It looks every bit a Porsche and even has the performance to go with it. It makes over 600PS and can hit 100kmph in under 3.5 seconds. Maximum speed is limited to 250kmph, but we suspect an unrestricted Mission E will be able to hit stratospheric speeds. But the best part is that the car has a range of 500km and can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in less than 15 minutes. Quite evil for a car that looks like a baby seal.
Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo
If you thought the Veyrons were the epitome of motoring performance, you better take a seat. The Vision Gran Turismo is the result of a car that was actually designed to stay inside a gaming console. And since they took the effort to make one for the virtual world, somebody at Bugatti decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and actually make one for the real world. In reality, this is apparently what all future Bugattis will look like. All we know is the concept uses the same W16 engine and should make the same if not more power than the Veyron. But what's really got us excited is the way this thing looks. It looks like it has been moulded from hellfire. Not something we would fancy seeing coming at us in our rear view mirror.
