Tata HBX - Another day, another bunch of spy shots
The Tata HBX test mules have been doing the rounds for a while now and the latest bunch of spy shots we have got our hands on, show an even clearer image of the details that will make it on the final production-spec car.
The HBX is likely to be called the Hornbill, but we are aware of how Tata can changes names at the last minute. The HBX was showcased in a concept form called the H2X and the test mules assert that the final design will be very close to the concept. The front end is inspired by the design theme seen on the Harrier - meaning it gets an LED brow along the bonnet line for the daytime running lights, while the actual headlights sit low down in the bumpers. None of the test mules spotted until now has LED headlamps on them, so it is likely that Tata could avoid them to keep the costs low (though they shouldn't).
The taillights seen on this test mule do get the LED treatment though and the detailing is very similar to those on the Nexon. Also, notice that the HBX has a coupé-crossover form like the Nexon and the rear door handles are placed around the C-pillar like the Maruti Suzuki Swift. If the final production car sticks to the concept's dimensions of 3,840mm x 1,822mm x 1,635mm (LxWxH) and a 2,450mm long wheelbase, it will indeed be comparable to premium hatchbacks on spec and space.
The HBX is built on the same ALFA platform as the Tata Altroz and is likely to get the same engine options too. The production car will be placed under the Nexon in Tata's portfolio and will rival the likes of the Honda WR-V on specs and the recently launched duo of the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite on the price.
