Tata Gravitas seven-seater SUV India launch February 2020 - What to expect?

Tata Gravitas has been announced as the name of Tata's flagship SUV. However, we know the SUV by the name of Buzzard that was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The Gravitas will be positioned above the Harrier and possibly be a successor to the Tata Hexa. The Gravitas will rival the likes of Jeep Compass, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500. Also considering the fact, the Gravitas will haul seven people on-board, it will rival the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta MPV as well.

The launch is likely to be scheduled for February 2020 which hints at Tata Motors making the most of its presence at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Gravitas will sport a fascia similar to the Tata Harrier. A honeycomb grille flanked by LED DRLs. The headlamp will be a projector unit and the front bumper will have an upswept design making for a higher approach angle.

Following is the list of things we expect from the Tata Gravitas when it will be launched in India.

1. Platform

The Gravitas will be based on the OMEGA platform, similar to the Tata Harrier. The OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) is a derivative of the Land Rover's D8 platform. However, Gravitas will have an added overall length of 62mm to accommodate the third row over the Tata Harrier.

2. Drivetrain

The Gravitas will be equipped with the Fiat Multijet 2.0 derived Kryotec diesel engine, which is again similar to the Tata Harrier. But this time the Gravitas is believed get the engine in a higher state of tune of 170PS, similar to the Jeep Compass. The engine will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, but unlike the Compass, Tata will also have the option of a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission that it has been sourced from Hyundai.

The Gravitas will be equipped with different drive modes and given the platform has been derived from a manufacturer popularly known for its off-road potentials. The Gravitas may be offered with an all-wheel-drive drivetrain with terrain response system.

3. Features

The Harrier was launched earlier this year and gradually kept getting timely updates to its feature list. But expect the same if not more features in the Gravitas from its debut. The 8.8-inch infotainment screen could be carried forward to the Gravitas with a 9-speaker JBL audio system.

4. Pricing

The Pricing is expected the be in the Rs 13-14 lakh ex-showroom bracket which places it above the Tata Hexa. The prices for the Hexa starts at Rs 13.25 lakh and go up to Rs 18.99 lakh ex-showroom. That said the top-spec Gravitas could set you back by Rs 17-18 lakh ex-showroom.
