Tata Altroz crosses 1 lakh production mark in under two years

Tata Motors has now manufactured over 1 lakh units of the Tata Altorz hatchback at its Pune facility since production began 20 months ago in 2019. The Altroz is the second-bestselling premium hatchback in the country with over 20 per cent market share. The car has been especially popular in the past few months, averaging monthly sales of 6,000 units in Fy2022 with the highest sales coming in March 2021 with 7,550 units.

Tata Altroz engine options

The Tata Altroz is the first car to be based on Tata Motors' new ALFA architecture and is the only car in the segment with a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating. The Tata Altorz is offered with three engine options. The latest to join the range last year was the Altorz iTurbo, powered by a detuned version of the three-cylinder 1.2-litre turbo-petrol from the Nexon. The motor makes 110PS at 5,500rpm and 140 Nm at 1,500- 5,500 rpm and pairs with a five-speed manual gearbox like the rest of the line-up. The other engines on offer are the 1.5-litre Revotorq turbo-diesel 4-cylinder that makes 90PS at 4,000rpm and 200Nm at 1,250-3,000rpm. The base petrol motor is the 1.2-litre Revotron 3-cylinder petrol, as seen on the Tiago, with 86PS at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 3,300rpm.

Tata Altroz features

Notable features on the Tata Altroz are LED DRLs, iRA suite of connected-car features with Hinglish voice command support, what3word navigation functionality, an 8-speaker Harman audio system, the Xpress cool function semi-digital instrumentation, ambient lighting, auto headlamps and wipers. There are four-way adjustable driver seats and two-way adjustable passenger seats. A blacked-out Dark Edition is also available with an all-black cabin and exterior embellishments.

Tata Altroz price, rivals

Prices for the Tata Altroz start from Rs 5.85 lakh for the base XE petrol, going up to Rs 9.59 lakh for the top XZ Plus diesel. The Altroz competes with the likes of the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz.
